The morning is chilly, but not too cold. Dale Crites, 42, opens the front gate to his house, an average-sized suburban home at an undisclosed location, and gives an animated wave, gesturing me to come in. Dale is no stranger to animated waves. His trademark gesture, as he struts up and down Ritchie Highway, has turned him into somewhat of a local celebrity.
As the morning sun rises along the rolling hills of Baldwin in Harford and Baltimore Counties, 200 acres of golden sunflower fields come to life.
As we approach Mother’s Day weekend, I’ve compiled a collection of women whose motherhood has become a part of their celebrity, in addition to those who have become celebrities because they are mothers. This is by no means a definitive list of celebrity moms but merely an observation of motherhood and fame as seen through the collective eye of American pop culture.
