The flooding in India’s northeastern Assam state is the worst in the past three years, affecting nearly 600,000 people in 19 of the state’s 27 districts, officials said. Monsoon flooding has lead nearly 200,000 people to leave their homes and take shelter in state-run tents this week. The area is prone to flooding during the June-to-September monsoon season. –Associated Press
