Seattle tunnel under construction
The Alaskan Way viaduct, which the two-mile Seattle tunnel will replace, is scheduled to be closed for about two weeks beginning Friday, April 29, as a precaution as tunnel boring begins under the structure. The tunneling machine is boring a double-decker traffic tunnel to replace the viaduct damaged in an earthquake in 2001.
