Appearing in China at the end of the 19th century, rickshaws originally had two wheels and were pulled by their driver on foot, with passengers seated at the back. Today, most of the vehicles are tricycles – some still have pedals and are propelled by physical force, but the majority are equipped with electric or gas engines.
Models on display at Auto Shanghai 2017, the global industry’s biggest marketing event of the year, reflect the conflict between Beijing’s ambitions to promote environmentally friendly propulsion and Chinese consumers’ love of hulking, fuel-hungry SUVs.
Bubble artist Deni Yang performed his Mega Bubblefest Laser Show Thursday at the Discovery Cube Science Center in Santa Ana, California. Deni, the son of famed bubble master Fan Yang, has followed in his father’s footsteps and travels the world performing his bubble shows. His family holds the world record for largest soap bubble, measuring 167 feet long, that was created in Beijing, China in 2009.
