A flight to Tangier Island with former Sun photographer Edwin Remsberg

In 1986, Edwin Remsberg, a former Baltimore Sun photographer, was assigned to photograph the Holly Run to Tangier Island, Va. — a small island in the Chesapeake Bay, only accessible by boat or plane, a little more than one square mile, with a population of just over 700.

Now here I was, Edwin’s former intern, doing the same assignment 29 years later with him as my pilot. (Read on below)

“InstaMeet” at the Baltimore National Aquarium

The National Aquarium’s first ever “InstaMeet” took place this past Tuesday in honor of the one year anniversary of their Black Tip Reef Exhibit. A small group of people who use the popular social media app, Instagram, were invited to an after hours party to enjoy light refreshments, good company and the opportunity to photograph one of the aquarium’s largest and most diverse exhibits. The participants were chosen through a contest that the National Aquarium made available to their followers on social media. The contest required them to submit a contact form with their name and Instagram account. Winners were randomly selected a week prior to the event.

The morning is chilly, but not too cold. Dale Crites, 42, opens the front gate to his house, an average-sized suburban home at an undisclosed location, and gives an animated wave, gesturing me to come in. Dale is no stranger to animated waves. His trademark gesture, as he struts up and down Ritchie Highway, has turned him into somewhat of a local celebrity.

Towson University celebrates first ever Holi Run

Towson University held its first ever Holi Run over the weekend, a combination of the traditional Holi Festival of Colors from India that celebrates the coming of spring and the Color Run race held in multiple cities throughout the country.

“It was my brain child that I came up with after watching Holi videos excessively last spring,” said student Justin Schwendeman. “I then thought of the Color Run and how Baltimore had never done one. I talked with some friends and we decided to put it on. URG contacted different organizations and we all decided to work together on the event.”
