Fanatic fans, marching bands, cheerleaders and lots of game action are just part of the spectacle that is the NFL. This week, photojournalists Karl Merton Ferron, Lloyd Fox and Kenneth K. Lam photographed the Ravens as they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 22 – 20 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

George Washington gets a face lift

The Maryland State House was closed to the public recently for an important occasion, the removal of one of the State’s most precious art pieces for a one-year restoration. The 1859 painting, “Washington Resigning His Commission,” by Edwin White, is “unquestionably one of the most important paintings ever commissioned by the state of Maryland,” said Alexander Lourie, Curator of the Maryland Commission on Artistic Property.

Bottlenose dolphins at the National Aquarium in Baltimore

The National Aquarium in Baltimore is home to eight Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, ranging from 5-year-old Bayley to 41-year-old Nani. Bottlenose dolphins can grow to 6 to 12 feet in length and weigh 400 to 800 pounds. Each dolphin eats 30 to 35 pounds of fish daily. Nani is the heaviest at the aquarium,
weighing in at 530 pounds.
