Many gathered at Loudon Park Cemetery to attend the 141st commemoration of Confederate Memorial Day in Maryland. The Maryland Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), along with other patriotic and heritage preservation groups, hosted the annual ceremony to honor the thousands of soldiers who served the Confederacy during the War Between the States. Over 600 Confederate soldiers are buried at Loudon Park.

Commissioning day at the United States Naval Academy is steeped in history and tradition. The class of 2014 paraded into the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium and a few hours later 1,068 Navy and Marine Corps officers were commissioned into the armed services. Around 30,000 family members and friends attended as their young men and women receive their diplomas and they rejoiced in the own unique ways.

The Preakness Stakes is a horse race steeped in history. Having first been run in 1873, the thoroughbred race is the middle jewel in the run for the Triple Crown. One of the little known traditions during Preakness week at Pimlico is the bath that each horse gets after their early morning workouts. Like most three year olds the horses don’t seem to be thrilled with the mandatory scrub down, but reluctantly suffer through them.

Michael Jordan’s home in Chicago reduced to $16 million

After going on the market for originally $29 million in March of 2012, the price for Michael Jordan’s home in Chicago was reduced to $21 million a year later. Now the price tag for the 56,000 square foot mansion has been lowered to $16 million. The home has nine bedrooms, 15 full bathrooms, a full sized indoor basketball court, plus a putting green and a tennis court. The art deco home, with the capacity to house 14 cars, is located north of Chicago on 7.39 acres.
