In mid-March Valencia, Spain, revels in the festival of Las Fallas. The festival is a celebration the waning days of winter and the arrival of spring. Know as the feast of Saint Joseph, the city is given over to a carnival of bonfires, fiesta, fireworks and bullfights.

The first day of the Crufts dog show got under way in Birmingham, England. The four-day show features over 25,000 dogs, with competitors travelling from 41 countries to take part. Crufts, which was first held in1891, sees thousands of dogs vie for the coveted title of ‘Best in Show.’
Dogs have been entered into breed judging, Gamekeepers’ classes and the Obedience Championships, including a record number of dogs from overseas. In addition, thousands more dogs will take part in agility, heelwork to music, flyball and a number of other competitions and displays as well as the popular Discover Dogs area.
On press day the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show opened its doors to displayed the latest models from the auto industries’ leading manufacturers. On display are some of the desirable autos on wheels. Such cars as the Lamborghini Veneno with a price tag of $3.9 million, the new LaFerrari hybrid from Ferrari, slick looking McLaren P1 and the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible where decked out for display. The show takes place at the Palexpo exhibition center this week in Geneva, Switzerland and will be open to the public March 7 – 17, 2013.
The European market suffered a devastating sales year in 2012 and there is little sign of a rebound in sight for the auto industry as they gather in Geneva for one of the most important car shows of the year.
Never one to let rivals like McLaren and Ferrari have all the fun unveiling their $1-million-plus supercars, Lamborghini brought its $3.9-million Veneno to the Geneva Motor Show.
Masses of pilgrims queued to enter St. Peter’s Square to hear Pope Benedict XVI’s final weekly public audience in Vatican City, Vatican on Wednesday. The Pontiff attended his last weekly public audience before stepping down tomorrow. The weekly event, which would normally be held in a vast auditorium in winter, was moved outdoors to St. Peter’s Square so more people can attend. Pope Benedict XVI had been the leader of the Catholic Church for eight years and is the first Pope to retire since 1415. He cites ailing health as his reason for retirement and will spend the rest of his life in solitude away from public engagements.
In Paris, France and Milan, Italy the latest in Fall/Winter fashions have hit the runways. But before each model takes a step toward the spotlight, they are primped, teased, blown dried and formed into the designers vision. A walking mannequin made to display the designs just so. This is the life of the runway model, hurry and wait, hurry and wait.
After all the glitz and glamor of the Red Carpet, the agony and ecstasy of the Oscar awards, it’s party time for the stars. Shortly after the last awards were handed out at the 85th Academy Awards celebrities headed off to the various parties where the winners tote around their golden trophies and the losers console themselves with champagne. One of the premier parties is the Governor’s Ball at the Ray Dolby Ballroom not far from Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. This legendary party is the official ball of Oscar.
Not to be out done is the Vanity Fair magazine post Oscar party, which was the place to catch a glimpse of anyone who’s anyone. The gala, held at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angles, started with a seated dinner and as the night progressed the stars arrived.
