- The John Eager Howard monument at Washington Place in Mount Vernon sits atop a bed of crumpled snow after Saturday’s Blizzard of 2016. Howard led a bayonet charge at the Battle of Cow Pens in the Revolutionary War, and was a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1788. - Seaman Michael Santiago, a ceremonial guard, rings the bell 56 times in memory of the officers and crew who disappeared on the USS Conestoga in the Pacific in 1921. The ceremony was part of a press conference held by NOAA and the U.S. Navy at the Naval Heritage Center to announce the discovery of the USS Conestoga, 95 years after it disappeared. Descendants of the crewmembers were in attendance. - Baltimore police move the suspect of a bomb threat to an armor vehicle outside Fox 45 television station at TV Hill. A 25-year-old Howard County man dressed in a costume, a surgical mask and a suspicious device taped to his body, walked into Fox 45 television station on 41st street at about 1:30 p.m. The incident ended with Baltimore police shooting the suspect several times. - Patricia Galofre-Riska holds two dogs at Dulles Airport. She and Jennifer Yoon of Baltimore are the founders of “Wings Of Love Kuwait,” a non-profit organization that rescues dogs from Kuwait. - Looking into the Howard Street tunnel from the north end, where one of the derailed cars is visible. A CSX freight train carrying a flammable chemical derailed at the Howard Street tunnel’s north entrance at Mount Royal Station about 5:45 am. Thirteen of the Cumberland-bound train’s 124 cars went off the rails; all but one of the cars were empty. The 13th car carried acetone. Officials said it may take 24 hours to clear the tunnel. - The Kashima, one of the three Japanese ships that arrived today, has a crew of 370 and is 472′ long. The purpose of the overseas training is to develop seamanship for the new officers. It has a The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Training Squadron arrives in Baltimore. - James Gray, 68, a lifelong resident of Sandtown, visits the new “green space” in the 1000 block of North Stricker Street in Sandtown, less than an hour after Gov. Larry Hogan and his entourage visited this newly created park, which has replaced a block of demolished vacant rowhouses. Gray was studying the already brown grass that appeared to be dying as it baked under the midday sun. Gray and other neighbors said were not aware of the plans for this lot, and were pessimistic about the viability of the new additions, which included some trees, annuals, two benches and the sod.
