Students from Maryland and surrounding states attend the camp, which runs for 5 days with music-centered activity from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. In addition to traditional rehearsals with a conductor, students learn about world music and music theory. They also can also learn to compose their own musical scores in the college’s musical instrument digital interface lab.
Dr. Linda Kirkpatrick, Director of Instrumental Music for McDaniel College, is the camp’s director. She said “I have always believed that every child should have access to a summer musical experience, without having to audition to participate. We accept every child, and then place them into the appropriate performing ensemble.”
