2014 Baltimore Sun pictures of the year
Famed landscape photographer Ansel Adams once said there are two people in every photograph, the photographer and the viewer. The Sun’s photo staff effort to bring compelling images that draw the viewer to the pages of the newspaper and baltimoresun.com. Be it humor or tragedy, their images elicit emotion. The pictures in this blog post are samples of their work in 2014.

- Robert Houston holds his photography book called, “Legacy to an Unborn Son,” published in 1970. Behind him are photographs he took that span decades. - Ann Bartlinski holds her daughter Gemma, 7. Ed and Ann Bartlinski are raising money for an orphanage in China called “Love You More Heart Home.” It will be a home for Chinese children who have heart problems. - Charna Mitchell, 22, has lived at Madison Park-North since she was born. She has four children and is still looking for another place to live. She’s says she’s very excited about leaving, “cause I don’t feel comfortable with my kids being in the neighborhood – like the selling drugs, the killing.” Madison Park-North, a troubled Reservoir Hill property that came to be known as “Murder Mall” will be demolished under an agreement that’s left some residents relieved, but others worried about where they’ll go. - Andrew Baker Jr. visits the grave of Angel Chiwengo at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, something he does every Wednesday. He was driving Chiwengo home, through the Northern Parkway and York Road intersection, when another vehicle fleeing police struck their Jeep, sending them across the intersection and ending in a fiery crash.
