Hurricane Odile made landfall early Monday, punching the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula with strong winds and sending torrential rains across 10 Mexican states.

Rain and flooding forced evacuations along Mexico’s Pacific Coast and dozens of rescues of people from stranded cars, authorities said. The ferocious hurricane smashed small buildings and left more than 200,000 people without electricity, officials and residents said. – The Los Angeles Times

President Barack Obama landed in South Baltimore in a large helicopter shortly before 4 p.m. Friday in advance of a private tour of Fort McHenry.

The president’s second visit to Baltimore in as many years comes as Democrats are defending nearly a dozen Senate seats in the midterm elections. Obama’s unpopularity in battleground states such as Kentucky and Arkansas has buoyed GOP hopes of capturing the majority.

Just moments before, Blue Angels jets streaked across the same skies amid the Star-Spangled Spectacular events.
