According to a press release from the prison, about 300 inmates at the Castro-Castro penitentiary are participating in the two-week tournament, which is being held in order to encourage the adoption of sports within the prison population.

The annual Fiesta de San Fermin, made famous by the 1926 Ernest Hemingway novel ‘The Sun Also Rises,’ involves the running of the bulls through the historic heart of Pamplona, Spain. Four people were hospitalized on the first day of the daily race through the narrow, cobbled streets that form part of the northern city’s week-long festival.

Rescuers said there was little hope that eight miners trapped underground in an illegal Honduran gold mine would be found alive, as a group of local miners prepared a last-ditch attempt to save their colleagues.
Rescue workers said they had smelled foul odors coming from the mine during an operation on Friday to free three of the 11 workers trapped by a landslide at the mine in San Juan Arriba on Wednesday.

More than 1,200 men and women reported to the United States Naval Academy as the Class of 2018 started their summer of indoctrination. The incoming plebes (freshman) go through the induction process where they have their hair trimmed, uniforms issued, medical exams and begin to learn the basics of being in the Navy. The last step is when the young men and women take part in the Oath of Office ceremony at the end of the day.
