Two wins and guaranteed advancing would have been nice, of course.

But every Team USA fan would have taken four points from the Ghana and Portugal matches with a chance to advance against Germany, and the main consequence of the United States’ last-second draw with Portugal on Sunday is that this is going to be a wild few hours of soccer that all Americans wish could have been avoided.

Heavy rains in Recife, Brazil, the location of today’s World Cup match between the U.S. and Germany, has caused extensive flooding, turning roads into rivers and making access to the stadium difficult. But FIFA says the U.S. game will be played as scheduled at noon ET.

After languishing for years as a wasteland of crumbling terminals, Hellenikon is set for resurrection as a glitzy coastal resort. Lamda Development, controlled by Greece’s powerful Latsis family and leading a consortium of Chinese and Abu-Dhabi based companies, has big dreams for the area since signing a 915 million euro deal for a 99-year lease in March.

While heavy rains impact the field as USA-Germany go head-to-head in Recife, Portugal and Ghana meet in Brasillia. The German team defeated the U.S. team 1-0 but the United States team advanced to the next stage with Portugal’s defeat of Ghana 2-1. Portugal will not advance despite the win. Algeria and Russia tied 1-1 leading the Algerian team to advance and the Russian team to pack their bags. Also Korea Republic lost to Belgium 1-0 and failed to advance. Belgium had already qualified for the next round.

 Luis Suarez really bit someone again, England bored us again, Greece went through on a soft late penalty and there might not be a more enjoyable team in the tournament than Colombia.

Today, in Group F, Argentina has already advanced and has a pretty straightforward path to the top spot in the group.Both Argentina and Nigeria qualified to advance to the next round at the end of their Argentina winning 3-2 game. Bosnia beat Iran 3-1 but will not advance to the next round. Also Switzerland defeated Honduras 3-0 and qualify for the Round of 16. France and Ecuador end the game tied 0-0 and France qualified for the next round.
