While a few of the clothes and accessories used in the shoot were owned by the Charm City Roller Girls, the majority were provided by Viva!, DeBois Textiles, Hunting Ground and Minas. Hair and makeup by Kimberly Dorn and Margaret Dubil of Viva!. All photos were shot at Skateland North Point. The Charm City Roller Girls’ next bout is Saturday at Du Burns Arena, 1301 S. Ellwood Ave. in Canton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the first whistle is at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 presale, $15 at the door and $25 VIP. You’ve seen them before, but never like this.
The Charm City Roller Girls are usually covered in gear — pads, helmets, the works — as they skate around Du Burns Arena during bouts. They can be a little intimidating.
So in advance of Saturday’s interleague game in Canton, we wanted to show the Roller Girls’ softer, more playful side. Using retro clothes and accessories from local boutiques, we had the Roller Girls recreate looks from the 1940s-1970s, from pin-up models to colorful Gidget-era looks. The outfits play off their personalities, and help bring the Roller Girls out of the pads and helmets and into our hearts.
