Charm City Roller Girls go retro [Pictures]

15 photos

The Charm City Roller Girls trade their helmets and pads for clothes from the 1940s-1970s.

You’ve seen them before, but never like this.

The Charm City Roller Girls are usually covered in gear — pads, helmets, the works — as they skate around Du Burns Arena during bouts. They can be a little intimidating.

So in advance of Saturday’s interleague game in Canton, we wanted to show the Roller Girls’ softer, more playful side. Using retro clothes and accessories from local boutiques, we had the Roller Girls recreate looks from the 1940s-1970s, from pin-up models to colorful Gidget-era looks. The outfits play off their personalities, and help bring the Roller Girls out of the pads and helmets and into our hearts.
