A more compassionate attitude creates self-confidence. Self-confidence encourages trust. And trust forms the basis of friendship, whether be between individuals, between members of different religions or between nations.
So said the Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, before pulling a white Maryland Terrapins visor onto his shaved head in front of 15,000 admirers at the Comcast Center on the University of Maryland campus Tuesday.
“Since my childhood, I always loved new things. Now I have this new hat,” he said, his dark eyes twinkling, to the roars of the crowd.

The gov is a tool.
He was in the audience for the speech. He had nothing to do with this. He was just an attendee like the rest of us 14,999 sitting in the arena.
When the Dali Lama starts handing out the white scarves to those who were on the stage with him, O’Malley runs around and up the steps and stands in line with the rest of the U of MD folks. He makes sure to get his mug prominently displayed.
What a bush league maneuver. After a speech professing peace, harmony, compassion and inner worth…O’Malley reverts to egoism and political posturing…how sad.
