The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the annual eclectic music festival held in southern California’s sweltering heat, kicked off on April 12 for the first weekend of its two-weekend celebration. Per the Los Angeles Times, 160,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the festivals’ run.

Since 1997, The Recher Theatre in Towson has been hosting live music acts, big and small, giving many local groups a chance to perform. Mike Ruocco, who is originally from Lutherville, was one of those acts. He started playing when he was a teenager at the Recher in his then-band Plunge, went on to join SR-71 and eventually started the band Cinder Road. A week before the Recher closes for renovations to turn it into a club and bar, Ruocco led Cinder Road Saturday night to their final performance at the venue.

The Beatles’ debut tune “Love Me Do” helped to ignite a worldwide obsession for the four-man British rock band celebrates its 50th anniversary on October 5, 2012. Though it only peaked at no. 17 on the British charts, the single “Love Me Do” was the rock group’s first hit record when released in October 1962. In the United States the song was a number one hit in 1964. The song released again in 1982 reached number four on the charts.

The Farmers Market was launched by the Conservatory, the Friends of Druid Hill Park, and the Baltimore City Recreation and Parks to foster a sense of community in the neighborhoods adjoining the park.
