In the midst of a long hard winter, it’s nice to take a moment to reflect on one of the annual rites that give us hope the spring will soon be upon us. One such ritual is the beginning of Orioles spring training in Sarasota, Fla. Baltimore Sun photojournalist Karl Merton Ferron traveled south to capture images of the players as they stretch, run, throw and do drills as the team begins to take form.
A sinkhole collapsed part of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., swallowing 8 cars including a ’62 Black Corvette, a PPG Pace Car, a Ruby Red 40th anniversary Corvette and other anniversary vehicles. A building had partially collapsed over a sinkhole at Summer Bay Resort near Disney World in Clermont, Florida. A 40 to 60 foot sinkhole opened up under the resort building reportedly beginning late August 11 into early August 12.

The North Florida Survival group trains children and adults alike to handle weapons and survive in the wild. The group passionately supports the right of U.S. citizens to bear arms and its website states that it aims to teach “patriots to survive in order to protect and defend our Constitution against all enemy threats.”
