LOS EBANOS, Texas (AP) — All along the winding Rio Grande, the people who live in this bustling, fertile region where the U.S. border meets the Gulf of Mexico never quite understood how Donald Trump’s great wall could ever be much more than campaign rhetoric.
A crisis over the care of at-risk children has outraged Chileans. After initially reporting just 185 deaths, the government recently acknowledged that 865 children have died under the care of the National Service for Minors over 11 years.

The Costa Rican authorities suspended operations at the country’s main airport Monday after the nearby Turrialba volcano erupted, sending a thick ash cloud into the sky. Turrialba erupted twice Monday, first at dawn and again just before noon. The second eruption sent an ash cloud 13,000 feet into the air.
Ticket sales for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games have surged following a slow start, to second-best in the games’ 56-year history, after London, according to the Associated Press. Competitions run through Sunday.
