Afghanistan’s first female wushu trainer, Sima Azimi, is training 20 Afghan girls aged between 14 – 20 at a wushu club in Kabul, after learning the sport while living as a refugee in Iran. Wushu is a sport derived from traditional Chinese martial arts.
A group of up-and-coming female boxers in Cuba want government support to form the island’s first women’s boxing team and help dispel a decades-old belief once summed up by a former top coach: “Cuban women are meant to show the beauty of their face, not receive punches.”
