Season four of Rupaul’s ultimate drag queen competition came to an end last week, with RuPaul crowning the fierce shock queen Sharon Needles as America’s Next Drag Superstar. Currently on her Everyday is Halloween tour, Needles stopped by this month’s Deep in the Game party at Club Hippo. Baltimore-based photographer Jen Mizgata was there to capture the style, the glam and the fearsome kids that came out to play at night.
Beautiful and outrageous, Mizgata called Needles a combination between Marilyn Mason and Lady Gaga, performances shocking but smart, with a goth commitment to counter culture.
“One of my favorite parts of the night was her second performance, in which she paid homage to Edie the Egg Lady from John Waters’ Pink Flamingos,” said Mizgata. “Standing in a baby crib, she was pelted with eggs from the audience while singing Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You. It was intense, and it showed her commitment to tailoring her performances to her environment.”
